BOOKS

I don’t usually post commentaries on political issues but the current trend of trying to ban books is a political endeavor and is repeating history.
This has been tried multiple time by similar ‘like minded’ people. I am specifically talking about how Hitler’s fascist totalitarian dictatorship banned and burned thousands of books starting in 1933 because he didn’t like the subject matter. He also attempted to control the local media of the time; newspapers and radio, to put forth his radical agenda and control what people thought. He was eventually crushed.
It’s happening again by the same type of people. This is frightening and undermines our freedom and democracy.
I encourage everyone to do their own historical as well as current research.
I don’t like certain vegetables…I don’t buy them. I don’t watch violent movies nor choose to read books that glorify or promote violence. That is my prerogative. My choice. I also tried to teach my children to respect all people even if they don’t agree with what they believe. I tried to teach them ‘how to think’ instead of ‘what to think’ regardless of whether I agree with them or not. I can only voice my opinion but that’s all it is my opinion and I don’t feel I have the right to try to ‘force’ someone to believe what I believe. Do my children and I have opposing views on things? Absolutely. That is their right as well as my right and I love them unconditionally.
I encourage and always welcome thoughtful intelligent discussion. Well informed debate is a key stone of our democracy.
